Experimental Investigation of Capillary Rise in Unsaturated Gypseous Soils

Capillary rise is a phenomenon that must be considered an inevitable factor when dealing with unsaturated gypseous soil. This study investigates the behavior of soil under capillary action, where different gypsum content and densities are experimentally tested in developed laboratory model consisting Transparent pipes 1 m long 0.05 diameter. All placed inside rectangular basin dimension (1500×500×500 mm). The was taken from Tikrit city Iraq at depth (1.5 to 2 m) natural surface; tests clarified poorly graded sand percent 59%. three other samples were prepared by dissolving HCl acid gain required percentages (22, 37, 6%). results show presence slows down water after rapid rising first stages test. low moderately soils shorter time reach maximum than highly soils. Also, existence increased max. height degree saturation zone also noticed for all examined. effective stress will fully saturated parts while it’s high parts.
